At Valua Travel we believe that travelling can be much more than discovering new places: it can be an opportunity to learn, reflect and transform. That is why we have created a series of environmental education experiences that connect with nature, and with the aquatic and marine ecosystems that are vital for our planet.
We offer sustainable surf stays in the Basque Country and Galicia, travelling marine workshops with the Oceanogràfic Foundation, and trips to blue destinations such as the Ebro Delta, the Balearic Islands or the Strait of Gibraltar, designed for schools, sports clubs and groups.
🐠 Which workshops and activities educate from the heart of the sea?
Below we present some of the most notable proposals in our environmental education catalogue, where active sport, living together and preservation come together:
Moana Eco Surf House (Basque Country): an immersive stay in an eco-friendly accommodation near the Cantabrian Sea. As well as surfing and skateboarding, participants can take part in environmental awareness workshops, learn about marine biodiversity and discover how to live more sustainably. The space has solar panels and a kitchen with vegetarian and vegan options.
Artsurf Camp – Plastics and marine sustainability workshop (Galicia): on Razo beach (A Coruña), this camp combines surfing and environmental awareness. Committed to the fight against plastics in the oceans (in 2018 it joined Greenpeace's initiative against plastic waste), it offers activities to learn about the problem of plastics in the oceans, take part in waste collection and sorting, and reflect on our environmental impact. All in a privileged natural setting and with a community committed to sustainability.
Marine awareness workshop – Oceanogràfic Foundation: a travelling activity; please check the geographical coverage and availability for your municipality. Participants explore marine life (posidonia, turtles, jellyfish...), the threats it faces and good practices to protect it. Ideal for schools, town councils and organisations that want to educate through action.
🌍 Which blue destinations are within your reach?
Environmental education has spectacular open classrooms in both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. We open the door to exploring many other destinations ideal for studying aquatic ecosystems first-hand, combining nature and sport routes with our operational excellence protocols. Among the most notable:
- Ebro Delta: Catalonia's great wetland ecosystem, perfect for watching flamingos and migratory birds and studying the rich river and coastal biodiversity.
- Cantabria and Costa Brava: destinations where active outdoor sport and water sports live side by side with the study of coastal flora and fauna.
- Mallorca and Menorca: exceptional marine environments where you can learn first-hand about the vital importance for the biosphere of the posidonia meadows of the Balearic Islands.
- Po Delta: in the heart of the Po Delta Regional Park (Italy) lies one of the most authentic and deep-rooted traditions of the Mediterranean setting: artisanal eel fishing. In the picturesque town of Comacchio, known for its network of canals as "Little Venice", local fishermen keep alive a centuries-old trade passed down from generation to generation.
- Sado Estuary Nature Reserve (Portugal): you can see one of the few resident colonies of bottlenose dolphins in Europe, which live all year round in the Sado river estuary.
- Strait of Gibraltar (Tarifa): a place to watch cetaceans in the wild with operators that follow responsible practices, thanks to the unique meeting of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
🌱 Why choose environmental education?
Our programmes do not only pass on knowledge, they encourage responsible attitudes, ecological values and real commitments to the environment. Through direct experience, young people learn to love and protect the ecosystems they visit.
