Travelling around Europe?
Although all students and teachers travelling with Valua Travel have private medical assistance insurance, we recommend applying for the European Health Insurance Card. When travelling around Europe, you never know when you might need medical attention. So, to avoid costly medical mishaps, it is advisable to apply for it, which is simple and free. More than 180 million people already have this card, so why shouldn't you?
What does the European Health Insurance Card include?
The European Health Insurance Card is a free card that entitles you to receive public healthcare in any of the 28 EU member states, as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, under the same conditions and at the same cost as people insured in each country. It is valid for two years.
What does it not include?
The European Health Insurance Card is not an alternative to travel insurance. It does not cover private healthcare or costs such as the return flight to the country of origin or the loss or theft of belongings. It does not guarantee that the service will be free of charge, since healthcare systems differ from country to country, and services that are free in your country of origin may not be free in the destination country.
How can I apply for it?
In most cases you can apply online through the Social Security Electronic Office. You do not need a digital certificate to access this service.
Or you can apply in person at any of the Social Security Information and Service Centres, by booking an appointment beforehand.
If someone does not belong to the General Social Security Scheme, they must contact their private mutual insurer for information on what to do if they need medical cover during the trip.
Regardless of how the card is requested, it will be sent within 10 days at most to the address held in the Social Security databases, so this address must be kept up to date.
