What documentation do I need to travel?

Gonçal PortasLlegeix-la en: EN · CA · ES

Are you a minor travelling abroad?

If you are a minor travelling alone, without your parents or legal guardian, you will need to obtain the parental/guardian authorisation issued by the Police, which can be completed by either of the minor's legal representatives. This document is mandatory and the original must be carried during the trip.

The procedure is free of charge, its validity varies depending on the length of the trip, and a travel permit declaration can be submitted electronically at most 90 days and at least 7 days before the start date of the trip, or in person at most 90 days beforehand, with an immediate response from the authorities.

If you are a minor and do not have Spanish nationality, see our recommendations here on how to travel.

Documentation to submit for the travel permit declaration

To obtain this permit, the father, mother or legal guardian must go to the police station with the following documentation:

  • ID card (DNI) or passport of the parents or guardians (original and photocopy).

  • ID card (DNI) or passport of the minor or ward (original and photocopy).

  • Family book, or equivalent civil registry certificate, or the minor's birth certificate, or appointment as guardian of the minor or of a person whose legal capacity has been modified by a court (original and photocopy).

Where can I obtain it?

For students with Spanish nationality, this document can be obtained online through the Mossos d'Esquadra, or in person at the Guardia Civil or Policía Nacional outside Catalonia.

  • Mossos d'Esquadra: online application on their website. The document must be printed.

  • Policía Nacional office: go to the electronic office and download the authorisation form here.

If you hold a non-Spanish nationality, you must check with your consulate, as it depends on the regulations in force in your country of origin.
